Call for demos

International Conference on Networked Systems 2017

March 13-16, 2017 – Göttingen, Germany

CALL FOR DEMONSTRATIONS [PDF]

The special interest group Communications and Distributed Systems of the German Association for Computer Science (GI/ITG Fachgruppe KuVS) is calling for nominations for the biennial Communication Software Award. The award honours the best practice-oriented application, tool, framework, or demonstration showing innovative and original research in the areas of communications and distributed systems. Submissions of novel, original works from both academia and industry are invited. Proposals by students, academic research projects, or small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are especially encouraged. Products that are already commercially available during the NetSys’17 conference are excluded from the awards. Single applicants or groups may apply. The competition is open for international participation. The best demo will obtain a cash prize sponsored by NEC Laboratories Europe. The best student proposal may get an additional award.

Submission guidelines

Submissions should include an extended abstract of up to two pages. Furthermore, submissions should include authorship (with affiliations), the problem domain and application scenario of the nominated communication software, platform requirements, and the envisioned licensing scheme. Submissions should explicitly state what will be demonstrated at the NetSys 2017 conference and how the audience will be able to interact and experiment with it. Moreover, the following assessment criteria should be addressed explicitly:

  • Innovation and novelty of the new software
  • Progress as compared to prior systems
  • The relevance to application in practice
  • The state of the software and its maturity for application

Selection

All nominations will undergo a preliminary review process for shortlisting. All shortlisted systems will have to be presented in a demo session at the NetSys 2017 conference in Göttingen. Registration to the conference is therefore required. The prize will be awarded following the final selection of the committee on site. All (shortlisted) abstracts will be published on the conference web site.
Submissions should be e-mailed to the demo chairs of the NetSys 2017 conference.
